Kolkata, August 18, 2025: Amity University Kolkata hosted the Orientation Programme on Monday, 18th August 2025, at the Biswa Bangla Convention Centre, ushering in a new academic year with the induction of over 2,500 students. The event, held from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM marking the formal commencement of the students’ higher education journey.

The programme opened with the ritual of Vedic Hawan and ceremonial lamp lighting, symbolising enlightenment and the quest for knowledge, followed by Saraswati Vandana, invoking the goddess of knowledge and wisdom. The ceremony was graced by distinguished dignitaries from the Amity Education Group, including Honourable Chancellor, Dr. Atul Chauhan, Prof. (Dr.) Ashok Kumar Srivastava (Vice-Chancellor, Amity University, Kolkata), and Honourable U. Ramachandran (Senior Vice-President, Amity Education Group) Dr. Preeti Sahni (Assistant Vice-President, Marketing, Outreach & Admission, Amity Education Group).

Addressing the gathering Honourable Chancellor Dr. Atul Chauhan welcomed the students and highlighted the university’s emphasis on research-driven learning, interdisciplinary collaboration, and holistic development of students. Honourable Vice-Chancellor, Prof. (Dr.) Ashok Kumar Srivastava, underscored the need for focus and diligence, he emphasised the importance of being hardworking and diligent in academics; he also urged students to embrace innovation, cultivate resilience, and contribute meaningfully to society. Honourable Senior Vice-President, Sir U. Ramachandran emphasised the importance of adaptability, global vision, ethical use of artificial intelligence (AI) and empathetic leadership in shaping the leaders of tomorrow. Respected Dr. Preeti Sahani, Assistant Vice-President, Marketing, Outreach & Admission, formally welcomed the students setting a tone of assurance for their academic endeavours in Amity University. 

Reflecting Amity’s global ethos, the orientation also celebrated inclusivity and cultural diversity, with students representing multiple states of India and several countries. The university reaffirmed its commitment to providing an environment where individuals from diverse backgrounds can learn, collaborate, and thrive, fostering mutual respect and cross-cultural understanding. The event introduced the incoming batch to the diverse academic, cultural, and entrepreneurial opportunities that Amity offers.

On 7th Aug, 2025, Amity School of Communication (ASCO), Kolkata organised a motivational session for the students of Media and Communication by Army veteran Col. Dr. Shantonu Roy on 'Adarsh - Be the Leader Everyone Follows'. 

On 7th August 2025, Amity School Of Communication (ASCO) organised an enriching session for the second year bachelor’s students of Journalism and Mass Communication, at Amity University Kolkata. The speaker of this session was Col. (Dr.) Shantonu Roy, who is a  retired colonel from Military Station, Panagarh (West Bengal) and has served in several key military operations like - Operation Vijay (Kargil), Operation Rakshak and Parakram (Pakistan Border), and Operation Pawan (Sri Lanka). He is currently a successful entrepreneur who is also the founder of Team Fearless Leaders, an initiative to coach and guide young minds on various essential arenas of life including leadership, stress, professional success, and daily life to ensure a smooth navigation through this ever-evolving, competitive world.

This session was organised and coordinated by Associate Prof. Moumita De Das of Amity University Kolkata, who played a key role in conceptualising and arranging this insightful event for the students. Dr. Shantonu was felicitated by Prof. Moumita along with other experienced faculty members of the Communications Department.

Dr. Roy indulged in a detailed and informative lecture, focussing on the importance of life skills to improve the quality of our lives, differences between a manager and a leader, pre-requisites and mandates of being an efficient leader, and ways to influence the ones around you with positivity and make people trust you, without having to assert any power or control to make others follow your path. With the help of an elaborate and comprehensive presentation, Dr. Roy broke down the nuances of leadership in today’s times and focussed on every fundamental dimension of the same. He cited examples of some key figures who have been considered the epitomes of leadership from both the distant past and the contemporary era including Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, Mahatma Gandhi, Indira Gandhi, Virat Kohli, to name a few. He also explained the distinctions between the various types of leadership and highlighted the necessity of understanding the distinctions between each of them. Dr. Roy also laid special emphasis on the role of accountability which is one of the most vital aspects of becoming a real leader. He stressed on developing flexibility, humility, and honesty to be able to surrender yourself and admit your mistakes whenever necessary, and take accountability for your actions to your team. Towards the end of the session, the students asked their doubts and wide-ranging questions regarding the topic and Dr. Roy cleared all of them with patience and utmost precision.
